South Seas Christian Ministries
We Exist to Share God’s Love, Compassion, and Hope with the People of the Pacific.

Our Story
South Seas Christian Ministries was founded in 1988 through the vision of Jack Thompson. Jack was a businessman in Honolulu, Hawaii, and also a titled Samoan Chief. He had a dream for his people that they would come to know Jesus Christ in a more personal way. In Samoa, everyone belongs to a church and everyone goes to church, but it often stops right there, without any type of personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, this holds true even with some of the pastors.
From 1990 through the present South Seas Christian Ministries has found a number of dedicated pastors and Bible College Professors to use their own vacation time to travel to the South Pacific and provide teaching seminars for the Samoan pastors and their congregations. Many lives have been changed as a result of this program.
In 1993 South Seas Christian Ministries implemented a new program for children. "Bible Camp" is four half days of Bible teaching, recreation, snacks, crafts and worship for children grades one through six. Helpers are recruited and trained from each village so that long after South Seas Christian Ministries departure the materials and programs can still be used in the villages. Our goal is to ultimately train the village to hold their own Bible Camp. In 1993, the ministry team numbered 20, and reached over 100 children. Each year the numbers have grown. In 1997 five churches sent ministry teams totaling over 200, and reaching an estimated 2,500 children.
In 1996, a program was started to minister to the youth over sixth grade. With no prior advertisement this sports-based, four-day camp drew close to 100 youth. Starting in 1997, there were "Youth Sports Camps" provided at all locations.
South Seas Christian Ministries has also been active in providing for the physical needs of the people. In 1991, the islands were devastated by a hurricane. South Seas Christian Ministries located a company willing to donate two portable saw mills. They were transported to two different islands, and men were trained to operate them. They began turning the fallen coconut palms into lumber, which they used to rebuild their homes. These two saw mills are still in use today. Since it's inception, South Seas Christian Ministries has been involved on a regular basis involved in providing food, clothing, and Christian resource material for both children and adults.
